América sound out Tigres misfit
The Águilas have contacted Tigres to inquire about Marcelo Flores’ current contractual situation. The winger isn’t in the team’s plans.

As the 2025 Apertura tournament approaches, América is actively looking to bolster its roster in hopes of launching a fresh title run. Head coach André Jardine and the front office have set their sights on a promising dual-national talent currently with Tigres UANL: Marcelo Flores, a 21-year-old winger with both Mexican and Canadian citizenship.
Marcelo Flores’ contract due to expire
According to ESPN reports, América has reached out to Tigres to inquire about Flores’ status. His contract is set to expire on June 30, and with no extension currently in place, he’ll be free to negotiate with any club starting July 1. Despite his potential, Flores hasn’t secured a regular spot in Tigres’ starting lineup, making him a prime target for América’s summer rebuild.

Another key detail emerging from the situation is that Marcelo Flores is not part of Tigres’ plans for the upcoming tournament. According to reports, even if the club were to offer him a contract extension, it would be solely to facilitate a future transfer—not to reintegrate him into the squad.
That’s precisely why Club América is eager to bring him on board. With his contract up this week and no renewal in sight, Flores represents a low-risk, high-upside acquisition. His status as a domestic player under Liga MX rules only sweetens the deal, giving América a strategic edge as they reshape their roster for the new campaign.
Flores also brings valuable European experience to the table. Born in Canada but eligible to represent Mexico through his father, Flores holds dual nationality and has developed his game across several top-tier academies.

Early years in England
He began his youth career at Ipswich before making a high-profile move to Arsenal’s academy in 2019. There, he progressed through the ranks up to the U-23 level and even trained with the first team, earning a spot on the bench for a Premier League match in 2022.
In the summer of that year, he was loaned to Real Oviedo in Spain’s Segunda División, where he made his professional debut and gained valuable first-team minutes.
His stint in Spain helped raise his profile, ultimately catching the attention of Tigres UANL. His time in Europe showcased his technical ability and versatility, making him an appealing prospect for the Liga MX side.
Since joining Tigres, Flores has earned his first real opportunities in top-flight professional soccer, and he’s made the most of them—scoring eight goals in his young career so far
